Officers stated they were contacted by a man who found a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Roughly fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.

Police report they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Police then found many other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state preliminary tests show the substance was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for tips.

A high-ranking representative stated the attack left him without words and had to be solved rapidly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
